The best thing about David Bowie is that he tried his hand at so many different sounds.
Everybody loves his classic glam rock, moody krautrock and groovy funk records. Most people try to forget his attempts at 80’s hard rock, Phil Collins pop ballads and camp-as-tents English music hall sounds.
Sure, they might not have captured hearts like the rest of his catalogue. One might even call them mistakes.
Enter Tomás Ford: a man who has built his two decade career on mistakes, broken equipment and uniquely anarchic sense of humour. He’s toured all over the world, making a name for himself as a late night troublemaker at fringe and comedy festivals. He’s scored a tonne of awards for shows like his Campfire Ukulele Torture, A Bit Too Edinburgh Fringe and Crap Music Rave Party. His cabaret shows see him set his crooning against live electronic music, video projections and his beloved ukulele.
He’s one of Perth’s biggest Bowie fans. He figured the best service he could be to his hero is to break down a set of failed masterpieces and to rebuild them with new arrangements. Polishing Bowie’s turds, if you will. Some of the new arrangements will touch your heart. Some will make you laugh like a drain. Put together, Tomás will bring you an alternative history of one of the great songwriters and performers of our time.
