Moort is the third in a four-part cycle following on from the previously released works Koorlangka (2020) and Koort (2022). The cycle is based on the principles of Koort (heart), Moort (family), Boodjar (country) and Koorlangka (children/ legacy). All of these works are performed in Noongar and English.
Moort emphasises the importance of family in our lives, including the “people we choose as our family.” And the stories aren’t unique. Through songs in Noongar and English, we discover that when you scratch under the surface you soon find that family is much more than DNA.
Through this work, Gina and Guy bring ancient language, contemporary music, stunning vocals, poignant stories and guitar brilliance, to share a moment of reflection on our collective and shared past, as well as hope for a healed future. National Treasure Archie Roach AC once said that “at some point we all came from the same campfire, we’re just trying to make our way back.”
