First Nations dance, music and text come together to tell a story of cultural resilience important for us all...

Alec ‘Tracker’ Riley was a Wiradjuri elder from Dubbo NSW and the Great-Great Uncle of choreographer and Australian Dance Theatre artistic director Daniel Riley. He served the NSW Police Force as a black tracker for 40 years through the beginning of the 20th century. Tracker is his story, told through a stunning combination of dance, music and text. It's the story of a man caught between two worlds, who made the complex decision to cross the racial divide. But it’s also the story of a continuing strained relationship between First Nations people and the Police Force.

A team of celebrated First Nations creatives, including Daniel Riley, award-winning playwright Ursula Yovich, acclaimed director Rachael Maza AM, composer James Henry, visual artist Jonathan Jones and lighting designer Chloe Ogilvie and an all First Nations cast invite you into an open and transformative ceremonial space for this culturally rich and ambitiously original work. Tracker will rethink the audience’s experience and engagement in First Nations storytelling, as it explores the legacy of Alec Riley’s decisions in the face of a forcefully implemented colonial system, a legacy that fuels continued cultural resilience.
