Witches!? In Salem?! by Matt Cox is a satirical retelling of the infamous 1692 Salem Witch Trials, blending comedy with historical truth. Known for Puffs, Cox brings his signature humour to this chaotic chapter of American history. The play follows the escalating hysteria in Salem Village, where land disputes and personal grudges spiral into a full-blown witch hunt.

At the centre of the frenzy is 12-year-old Abigail Williams, whose accusations spark a wildfire of paranoia. Meanwhile, new suspicious villagers, the Bloodkravens, arrive, bewildered by the madness. The narrative is guided by eighth-grader Jenny Anne Bishop, an enthusiastic student who narrates the show and offers humorous historical insight.

With a comedic melodramatic style, the play skewers the fanaticism, corruption, and groupthink that fuelled the trials, while drawing modern parallels. Witches!? In Salem?! delivers a fresh, funny, and timely look at one of America’s darkest moments.
