KATE MILLER-HEIDKE: The Kiss & The Abyss

11 September 2026 State Theatre Centre of WA, Studio Underground

Presented by Craft Music & One Louder

Join genre-defying singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke as she launches her new album, and explores territory at once both ancient and new - deconstructing our past, illuminating the present, and casting her eye towards our future, on her new gothic folk masterpiece, The Kiss and The Abyss.

On her new album, Kate Miller-Heidke returns to her musical roots - while pushing further into the unknown than ever before. A striking fusion of gothic folk, theatrical storytelling, cinematic soundscapes, and avant-garde textures, the new album finds one of Australia’s most singular voices at her most fearless, expansive and self-assured. Kate takes the folk music that was the first love of her songwriting youth, and refracts it through a darker, more experienced lens, to focus on the ills - and the hopes - of the modern world.

The Kiss and The Abyss is a meditation on the Internet age - its distortions, seductions, and impact on our humanity. Old-world instrumentation and mythological imagery collide with distinctly modern anxieties, creating a work that is both timeless and sharply of the moment, reflecting the emotional and ideological battlegrounds of contemporary life.

Join Kate Miller-Heidke, with longtime collaborator Keir Nuttall on guitar, as she performs a wide selection of tracks from the album – some for the first time – alongside the songs that have made her one of the most acclaimed and respected singers, songwriters, and creative forces in contemporary Australian music.
